I know many of you have already given us generous donations. Thank you.
If you have not helped yet you many want to consider a ticket or two in the raffle. There are not that many people yet so your chances of getting the silver heart or a rug are pretty good.

A Birthday Party for the person who has everything

Little by little we are receiving donations for the new store/restaurant. If you would like to help here is a fun way to raise money. Have a party!!  This suggestion is from Judy Christoffersen.

A Birthday Party for the person who has everything

Need to plan a party?  Last summer was my brother's 50 th and we knew a big party was called for.  But like so many of us, he needs nothing.  So in the birthday invitations we asked the guests to NOT buy a gag gift, or even a four dollar birthday card.  Instead, we told them we would like to make a donation in my brother's name; to the store the women of the Rug Hook Project are working on.  After the group gathered to sing happy birthday, I talked a little about the women's group and explained the store project.  Friends and family came through like troopers and we were able to raise $500 for the project.  I am telling this story to encourage others to do the same.
It made all the people at the party feel good about giving, and my brother was especially pleased!

The picture is of the display we set up with information, pictures and postcards about the Rug Hook Project.  The basket was for contributions.

We had a Mexican theme and this is my brother Scott in the sombrero.

I'm turning 65 this year and thinking what a great way to celebrate.

PS. Work is continuing on the building. I'll be headed to MX at the end of June and give you the updates.[[posterous-content:pid___0]]

The origin of Mothers Day

Julia Ward Howe's Mother's Day Proclamation - 1870

Arise then...women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts!
Whether your baptism be of water or of tears!
Say firmly:
"We will not have questions answered by irrelevant agencies,
Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage,
For caresses and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.
We, the women of one country,
Will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs."

From the bosom of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with
Our own. It says: "Disarm! Disarm!
The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe out dishonor,
Nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil
At the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home
For a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace...
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar,
But of God -
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
That a general congress of women without limit of nationality,
May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient
And the earliest period consistent with its objects,
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions,
The great and general interests of peace.

Letters from Children to Rancheritas

In 2011 I sent the rugs to Ginny Hamilton in Boston Mass. She sold a bunch of rugs which was great. And her sister, an elementary school teacher, brought the rug she purchased to her class. These letters are their responses. Enjoy their sweet responses.
